Variety Data From 2012 and 2013

— Written By NC State Extension

In fairness to Spain (earlier Peanut Note with 2013 data only), these are data that will go in 2014 Peanut Information which include 2013 and 2014. Spain lagged behind Bailey, just as most varieties did in 2013, but performed well in 2012. Birdsong has been offering a premium to get Spain planted (they own the variety). It does mature late and is a big peanut, suggesting that rainfall or irrigation and calcium are perhaps more critical than for other varieties, such as the smaller-seeded Bailey. But under some conditions, just like we very often noted with Gregory, it can do extremely well.
