Imidacloprid Versus Thimet

— Written By

We have some growers in the Pee Dee region asking if they can substitute imidicloprid for thimet for thrips control in their peanuts. What are you advising growers in respect to this? Will they both give comparable results?

I suggest you check with Jay in addition to considering my comments. We in NC have had very good success with Admire Pro compared with Thimet. We have been using the higher labeled rate and it has worked well. There have been concerns about TSWV following use of AP but we have not seen that in NC. We are planting a resistant variety (Bailey) at relatively high seeding rates often in mid-May with less virus tending to show up. As of right now we feel good about AP performance and virus risk.
