Farm Finance & Law – Jan. 16

New this year, we have agricultural law experts coming for a Farm Finance and Law Meeting. Join us here at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center on Thursday, January 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. as Dr. Roderick Rejesus, NC State Extension Agriculture & Resource Specialist and Andrew Branan, NC State Extension Assistant Professor of Agriculture & Environmental Law present on topics related to farm finance and law. One of the topics covered will be ARC/PLC decision making. Please call Adam Formella at 252-232-2261 if you have any legal topics that you would like them to cover. Your input is greatly appreciated. 

Soybean Production Meeting – Jan. 22

The Soybean Production Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 8 to 10 a.m. here at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center. Two specialists from NC State University will be presenting on maximizing soybean production, Dr. Rachel Vann, Extension Soybean Specialist, and Dr. Wes Everman, Extension Weed Specialist. Topics will include planting dates for early maturing soybeans, weed control, and results from the 2019 Northeast Ag Expo Summer Field day research that was done here in Currituck. Two hours of N, O, D, & X pesticide credits will be offered. Breakfast is provided. A pre-registration web address and instructions are listed below to obtain a meal count.

Corn Production Meeting – Jan. 31

The Camden/Currituck Corn Production Meeting is planned for Friday, January 31 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Camden United Methodist Church. Dr. Ron Heiniger, NC State Extension Corn Specialist and Dr. Dominic Reisig, NC State University Entomology Specialist, will be presenting on maximizing corn production. Topics will include row spacing and temperature impact, insect control updates, and Dr. Heiniger’s weather forecast! Two hours of N, O, D, & X pesticide credits will be offered. Lunch will be provided. To get an accurate meal count, a pre-registration web address and instructions are listed below.

Auxin Training – Feb. 4

Auxin training is again required for 2020. Anyone planning to apply dicamba (Engenia, FeXapan, or Xtendimax) over the top to dicamba-tolerant cotton or soybeans must be a certified applicator, and attend a mandatory Auxin Herbicides – Best Management Practices training (even if the training was attended in past years). This requirement mandates that whoever is driving the sprayer needs to have a private applicator pesticide license (those working under the supervision of a certified applicator may no longer make applications), before then attending one of the mandatory trainings. On February 4, there will be an Auxin Herbicides – Best Management Practices training here at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center from 3–5 p.m. led by Dr. Wes Everman from NC State University.

Respirator Clinic – Feb. 10

N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center is partnering with Henderson & Associates Inc., and Albermarle Regional Health Services to offer a respirator clinic. This clinic will be composed of health examinations, and respirator fit testing. The clinic will be held on Monday, February 10 from 10 a.m. to noon at Henderson & Associates Inc, 330 Camden Causeway Elizabeth City. Make sure to attend this clinic if any of the pesticides you plan on spraying require a respirator!

Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification: 2 Hour “V” Training – Feb. 11

On Tuesday, February 11 from 1 to 3 p.m., Mr. Adam Formella, Agriculture Extension Agent in Currituck County and Mr. Clay Hudson, N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services will be offering a Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification 2 Hour “V” Training upstairs here at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center. This course offers two hours of the required “V” credits. Please contact Adam Formella at 252-232-2261 if you have questions regarding when your pesticide license will expire and how many credits you have/need.

2020 Northeast Ag Expo Small Grains Field Day

This year’s Small Grains Field Day will be held in Gates County. Join us on Wednesday, February 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at Lynn Hobbs Farms, 208 Spivey Rd., Hobbsville as we discuss the latest research being studied in Northeast N.C. related to wheat production. NC State University professors Dr. Ron Heiniger, Dr. Christina Cowger, Dr. Angela Post, and Dr. Wes Everman will present on topics ranging from fertility to disease and weed control. Two hours of N, O, D,& X pesticide credit will be offered. Lunch will be provided at the event, please pre-register at the web address below or by phone to help us get an accurate meal count.

Pre-registration for the Corn and Soybean Production Meetings are required for meal counts. You can register online at go.ncsu.edu/2020winteragmeetings or by contacting the office at 252-232-2261. No payment is required for any of the provided meals.
