Question:
Had someone from a company reach out to me asking about using chlorpyrifos on peanuts in VA. Said he got some new in his warehouse and its labeled for use in peanuts but he wanted to make sure before selling it.
Jordan:
Yes, it is legal to apply chlorpyrifos as a granular product as long as the label for the product has peanuts listed. Do not apply a liquid. Just granular like we have used historically.
See Peanut Notes No. 44 2024 for correspondence with NCDA&CS.
This information applies to NC. I suspect VA is similar.
It will not be legal in 2025, so I would not stock too much. My impression is that use in 2024 is allowed primarily to allow it to be used appropriately and not discarded in other ways. Tolerances will be removed completely after the 2024 peanut crop unless there is some drastic change.
