Cobra and Ultra Blazer in Hot Weather Peanut Notes No. 133 2025

(Updated: June 27, 2025, 9:38 a.m.)

Question:

Given temps are higher than normal, crop is delayed and drowned, and roots sluggish, do we need to hold off burning it up with Cobra and Butyrac? I just feel like I have never sprayed with it this hot this early.  I’m nervous of delaying this crop any further.

Jordan:

Seems like it has cooled some, and 7 day forecast is not as intense. If your weeds will hold until Monday or at least into the weekend, there would be less risk. You could switch to Ultra Blazer with less risk. Palmer amaranth grows 2 inches a day this time of year, so you can’t wait too long.

Follow Up:

Will Basagran cool down Cobra? I have not had much luck with Blazer compared to Cobra. Just my opinion though.

Jordan:

Agree on larger weeds - Blazer vs Cobra. I have not always observed Basagran safening Cobra, but some swear by it. I would use 80/20 nonionic surfactant at 1 quart per 100 gallons.
