In discussions with several people, the selection of fungicides seems to be based primarily on price but also how effective the active ingredients were years ago. Pyraclostribin (Headline and generics now), azoxystrobin (Abound and generics now), and Tebuconazole (Folicur and generics now) are no longer effective in protecting peanuts from leaf spot disease. Tebuconazole and azoxystrobin still give good protection from southern stem rot but not leaf spot. As you finish out fungicide programs for the year, make sure you don’t let an epidemic keep building because the fungicide you pick no longer has activity against the pathogen causing leaf spot. A two-week gap now will be a major issue.
