Controlling Emerged Texas Millet Peanut Notes No. 83 2026

Question:

Farmer has significant Texas panicum (Texas millet) in a field. Weeds are small. What is the best option? Can I apply Dual or Zidua to get residual control? This is the only weed in the field right now.

Jordan:

Apply a clethodim product as soon as possible. If small, 8 ounces should be effective, but the grass might be stressed, so increase the rate. You will have more flushes of this weed as the season progresses. I have tank mixed Dual Magnum with clethodim in the past and have not observed antagonism or crop injury. I would apply with a pint of crop oil concentrate rather than a quart. I have some data on clethodim with Zidua and I did not see an issue. I have not seen a major difference in residual control when comparing Dual Magnum with Zidua on this weed.

Next year, encourage the farmer to apply pendimethalin and incorporate. Texas panicum can emerge from depths below what other annual grasses are capable of. But that is for next year.
