Question:

We had from 0.5 to 1.2 inches of rain from this frontal system. Some of the fields were in heavy drought stress (50-60% of the field). Assuming there was already some yield loss. What can we expect from the rain, damaged kernels, sprouting in the hull or some recovery and increased maturity and kernel weight or all of the above? Those fields with less stress I’m looking for more maturity and weight.

I think with the rain you will see some progression of maturity but minimal. The drought stressed peanuts are likely to have some kernel damage. I just don’t know how much. Virginia market types will not sprout in the hull at a higher rate. There is about 4 months of dormancy built in. Same for runners market types. I suspect substantial yield loss in the stressed areas. I would try to give the healthy vines one more week (if they need it.) I wouldn’t let the peanuts stay in the ground after next week.
