Getting the Most Out of Contact Herbicides Peanut Notes No. 103 2025

We use products like Gramoxone plus Basagran, Ultra Blazer, Cobra, Storm, and Basagran to control broadleaf weeds after they emerge. Sometimes these products work well. Other times not so much. Here are three ways to optimize weed control with contact herbicides:
  1. spray the maximum rate of herbicide on weeds that are small based on the label
  2. apply herbicides in higher spray volumes - coverage of as much of the weed as possible is critical for control
  3. slow down the ground speed of the sprayer - this increases uniformity of coverage of weeds
  4. there is no substitute for 1, 2, and 3
