First Question:

Do you think it’s too late to put Landplaster out? It‘s been wet for 3.5 weeks and I can now get in the field.

Yes, I would put it out. There is still a solid month or more of pod fill.

I would put out 2/3 of your normal late June/early July rate.

Second Question:

I got a call about some runner market type peanuts out of Georgia, I’m pretty sure. They are looking at applying gypsum at 200 lbs per acre and it’s August. I assume that would be a waste.

No soil test Information.

I told someone earlier today to apply gypsum to Virginia types at 2/3 the normal rate. There is still a month of pod fill and the calcium could help. I’d apply 500 pounds gypsum to the runners. Not sure they can uniformly apply 200 pounds of gypsum. That is very low, and uniformity will be an issue.

I also think they need to ask someone locally if they are growing peanuts in Georgia. Scott Monfort is an excellent agronomist with UGA Extension. My answer is for a runner market type variety planted in May with a likely harvest in October in North Carolina.
