Question:
I’ve seen a farmer that has already applied Landplaster. I’ve always waited until I see a bloom.
Jordan:
That is the best thing to do. I encourage folks to wait until late June. Peanuts don’t need the added calcium until pegging and there needs to be enough into September. I worry with early applications that an intense rainfall event could wash it from rows into middles. Having larger plants will minimize that risk. If we have a lot of rain, some of the gypsum will move through the profile out of the pegging zone.
You are correct in my view to wait until blooming.
