Corn earworm or Tobacco Budworm in Peanuts

Over the coming months I am going to expand on the general list below on keys to success. If we can be timely with inputs and practices we need, we most often receive a dividend from them. These is a lot of detail in each one of these.

General Production Practices

Apply nutrients based on soil test

Maintain pH above 5.8

Avoid excessive Mg and K

Avoid fields with zinc

Establish good rotations (cotton, corn, sorghum, sweetpotato)

Plant a disease-resistant variety in May at a 2-inch depth

Establish 5 plants per foot of row

Use conventional tillage in most cases with beds

Inoculate with Bradyrhizobia for nitrogen fixation

Apply calcium at pegging

Apply boron and manganese

Keep plants healthy to get greatest flexibility of when to dig

Dig based on pod mesocarp color

Control pests using IPM practices
