Kudos OD and Tank Mixtures Peanut Notes No. 137 2024

(Updated: July 7, 2024, 7:20 p.m.)

Kudos OD is a new liquid formulation of prohexadione calcium. Apogee and Kudos are dry formulations that have been around for many years. A new dry formulation named Cryova is also available. Historically, I have indicated that dry formulations can be tank mixed with fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and foliar fertilizers. Ocasionally, someone will indicate that they see some discoloration when the dry products are mixed with some products, especially if crop oil concentrate is included. I typically do not see that in my research but I trust the sources. I have also told people that they can leave off the crop oil concentrate and simply go with nitrogen solution or liquid ammonium sulfate. The nitrogen is the key for adequate performance. We do, however, see more consistent results when crop oil concentrate is included.

However, the new product, Kudos OD, is a liquid and the emulsifiers in the formulation seem to contribute to possible leaf burn when applied with some products, especially when crop oil concentrate or 80/20 nonionic surfactant is used. We have looked at most of the fungicides that are commonly used in peanuts and most of them have this potential. We are going to look at herbicide, insecticide, and foliar fertilizer mixes this summer.

In the meantime, I recommend that Kudos OD be applied with ammonium sulfate and either crop oil concentrate or nonionic surfactant without any other product. DO NOT apply Kudos OD with herbicides, fungicides, insecticides or foliar fertilizers. Overtime we hope to build a list of products that are compatible, but for now, out of an abundance of caution, I recommend that Kudos OD be applied only with the recommended adjuvant system without any other plant protection products.
