Length of Leaf Spot Suppression with Miravis plus Elatus Peanut Notes No. 188 2026

I recently had a discussion with an excellent farmer about how soon a fungicide spray should follow Miravis plus Elatus. This farmer is risk averse and is anticipating rain early next week. The 21-day interval after Miravis plus Elatus is Wednesday August 5. Here is my text to the farmer. I have also included data tables associated with the research mentioned. The link to the full article is also provided.

Couple of thoughts on Miravis/Elatus (ME) and the next spray. I know we are in a cycle of rain (but I also know the spigot could turn off at any moment.) ME is very expensive and the extended interval beyond 2 weeks is the only way that treatment pencils out. Depending on the product it is being compared with, ME is about twice the cost. We did a lot of work when it first came out (Miravis) and demonstrated that you could get 4 weeks of protection from leaf spot with a single ME spray. If you were delayed to 5 weeks, leaf spot control and yield dropped off. Overtime, especially in the southeastern US, control has decreased with Miravis when people were expecting 4 weeks of protection. In some cases, with 3 weeks. I’m not sure if the decrease in sensitivity to the pathogen has been documented, but the ME program has been used a lot for almost a decade, so there could be some resistance developing. We have not observed the issues up here that the folks in the southeastern US have, at least to the same extent. We have better rotations (longer) and fewer peanuts, and I know that helps.

All this to say, if you spray at about 16 days with ME, I think it is very conservative. If you waited until 21 days to spray and then got rained out until 28 days, you would most likely not sacrifice protection from leaf spot. If it got so wet you were delayed until about 35 days, there would be slippage in control. But that’s 3 weeks from now. You are planning on a Provost Silver spray next, and that has some curative activity if that spray gets delayed.

Nothing inherently wrong with a short interval of ME other than expense. Even with a 21-day program, we have pretty good information showing you have at least one more week where protection is adequate.
