Mepiquat Chloride on Peanuts Peanut Notes No. 206 2025

Question:

I had the question recently about mepiquat chloride use in peanuts to shorten internodes and the individual indicated significant yield gains from use of this product.  I haven’t heard of this and was wondering what your experience/thoughts are.  Thanks.

Jordan:

It is certainly not labeled. I sprayed it on peanuts years ago and did not see a response. These PGRs (mepiquat chloride and prohexadione calcium) minimize or prevent internode elongation but will not shrink plants. There are more and more formulations of prohexadione calcium available now that are less expensive. That is all we have to help with excessive vine growth.
