Paraquat Cutoff Dates Peanut Notes No. 85 2026

(Updated: May 27, 2026, 12:59 p.m.)
Palmer amaranth in peanuts

Paraquat needs to be applied within 28 days after peanut emergence. I suggest that the application be made around 3 weeks after application because weeds are often smaller. Always apply paraquat with Basagran at 8 oz/acre. Basagran reduces injury from paraquat. A Group 15 herbicide can be included with paraquat plus Basagran to increase residual weed control.

Paraquat can also be applied with Storm at 1.0 pint/acre. The bentazon in Storm safens injury from paraquat.

Include nonionic surfactant at 1 pint per 100 gallons water.

Paraquat cutoff dates based on when peanuts emerged. Product labels indicate that paraquat (various formulations) can be applied within 28 days after peanuts emerge but not after 28 days.
