Peanut Plant Populations Peanut Notes No. 57 2025

A farmer called and asked what population is best per foot of row. My answer is try to achieve 4 to 5 plants per foot of row across the field. Given fields can vary in soil characteristics and moisture (especially if areas of fields are cloddy and rainfall appears to be limited on the horizon,) my suggestion is plant 6 weed per foot of row across the field. Depending on germination, and assuming about 80%, this will give 5 plants across most of the field and likely 4 plants in areas of the field where the seedbed is less than desirable.
