Question:
How do we get drown peanuts back? Was thinking two foliar Micropac and Rescue applications and then when dries out use ammonium sulfate
Jordan:
Our expectations should not be too high if peanuts are stunted. When the low spots dry the peanuts will green up. But yields in those spots will be lower. I don’t think AMS will help that much. When it dries up enough to make an application, I think the peanuts will begin greening up on their own.
With a true N deficiency, you have to have half the field with the issue to justify 500 pounds AMS economically as a broadcast application. I think even a lower rate broadcast, say 200 pounds, would not justify the cost. If you could apply only to the spots cost would be less. I still think a positive response is marginal at best.
I don’t know what to say about the Micropac and Rescue. There is no real substitute for drier soil and sunlight.
