Reducing Peanut Injury From Paraquat Peanut Notes No. 95 2025

Question:

Have a grower that tested Gramoxone with combination of materials to see what the burn would be. Farmer was told there would be less burn than Gramoxone plus Basagran. Any truth to that? Looks pretty dinged up.

Jordan:

I don’t know of any product combination that will reduce paraquat injury like Basagran. Basagran affects the physiology of the plant. The other products I am hearing about are possibly helping plants outgrow the injury caused by paraquat. There is a big difference. Basagran prevents a lot of damage paraquat could cause while the others help plants get better. From what I know, without seeing data, there is no substitute for Basagran. We did some work for a distributor at least 5 years ago, and you could see some help from their product but not on a consistent basis like Basagran. Paraquat injury needs to be avoided with a proven product like Basagran. You will notice that we do not include a recommendation other than Basagran in the production guide.

Question:

Gotcha. That makes sense. What do you think of the burn on those?

Jordan:

Looks like there is new growth coming even on the severely burned ones. I’d spray Hemi soon to make sure thrips do not slow up recovery.
