Seedling with J Rooting

As seedlings move toward emergence, we can often see j-rooting and rolling of the hypocotyl. A degree of this is due to the type of emergence peanuts exhibit, but j-rooting can be exacerbated by cool weather and poor-quality seed. Metolachlor (Dual products) are often blamed for this phenomenon. However, work by Eric Prosko at UGA (well-respected weed scientist) has shown that j-rooting is not caused by metolachlor injury.
