This time of year, we see a considerable number of spots in the peanut canopy. These are caused by chemicals and not the leaf spot we spray fungicides to prevent. We often do not see leafspot disease in fields until August, and the lesions begin at the base of the plant in most cases. You can often trace the spots you see now back to a spray that included contact herbicides.
