Tomato spotted wilt has been reported in North Carolina. This disease is caused by a virus that is transmitted by thrips. The disease can give you many different looks. There is no way to control the virus. Thrips control programs, variety resistance and several cultural practices can lead to less risk, but once you plant, those practices have been put into place.
