Question:
What is this problem? Could this affect the entire field? I know some spots more severe than others.
Jordan:
This appears to be tomato spotted wilt (The posted image is not the image sent, but is TSWV.) Just to be sure, are some of the plants stunted?
Follow Up:
Yes
Jordan:
Infection likely occurred in April and May. The field will likely have more areas that show virus as the season progresses. But it’s not related to an area you see now “infecting” new areas. It’s all about infection that occurred earlier in the season and how much virus actually entered the plant as thrips fed on plants. You can have plants with no symptoms that had low levels of virus up to severely stunted plants that had high levels of virus vectored early in the season. I don’t know how much more you will see, but if you are seeing it now, I think it will get worse. Hard to quantify.
