Valor Injury on the Variety Walton Peanut Notes No. 97 2022

(Updated: June 5, 2022, 5:33 p.m.)

There have been some questions about poor stands and a lot of stunting of the variety Walton compared with other varieties (Bailey II, Emery, and Sullivan, for example).  We have not observed any major differences in peanut variety response to herbicides like Valor over the years.  This is especially the case when comparing varieties that are runner market types and Virginia market types.  There have been cases where Spanish and Valencia market types are impacted more by herbicides than runner and Virginia market types.  My thoughts are that the fields that have Walton and significant injury from Valor, had the scenario of peanuts emerging just when we received significant rains to cause splash up injury.
