Question:

Too wet to spray Valor/Dual. Peanuts planted 8 days ago. Probably be Monday before we can get in the field. Four and half to 5 inches of rain in since Sunday. What’s herbicide treatment do you recommend if peanuts emerge before we can spray?

Jordan:

Best program to use is Gramoxone plus Basagran plus a Group 15 residual herbicide (Dual Magnum, Outlook, Warrant, Zidua, or Anthem Flex - All of these can serve the purpose.) Dual Magnum (or another metolachlor product) is very popular. The key is spray the paraquat as quickly as possible, use the Basagran to decrease the burn from paraquat, and include the Group 15 for residual weed control. A few weeks later you will need to apply another contact/residual spray, but selection will depend on the weed spectrum that you have in the field. The paraquat treatment described above will give you breathing room.
