Collapse ▲This time of year there are some fields that have a wide range of weeds that have escaped earlier herbicide applications. In some cases in the conversation, all of the weeds are not identified. I see two options to cleanup a weedy field. One is Cadre or Impose plus Ultra Blazer or Cobra. These mixtures control the vast majority of weeds. The issue can be planting cotton the next year. If that is the case, my recommendation is Ultra Blazer or Cobra plus Basagran plus 2,4-DB. If annual grasses are present, a clethodim product can be added. If that is the case, the adjuvant needs to be crop oil concentrate rather than 80/20 nonionic surfactant. There will be more chlorosis with the crop oil and grass control will be lower than normal. Use the highest rate of clethodim (grass control will still be marginal due to antagonism by Ultra Blazer or Cobra mixed with Basagran.)
These are effective mixes but we hope most fields don’t get to this point. The Cadre or Impose plus Ultra Blazer or Cobra has residual activity. If you can get the emerged weeds, the field will likely be clean for the balance of the season. For the Ultra Blazer or Cobra plus Basagran plus 2,4-DB, some weeds may emerge a few weeks later. This mixture has no residual activity.
