Question:

I applied Dual,  Prowl and Valor at planting. Control is good. I normally apply 8 oz paraquat, Basagran, and Dual. Still wet and missed the 28 day window. Is Dual and Blazer a reasonable option now which hopefully will be in 4 or 5 days? Or should I add Basagran to the mix?

Jordan:

Depending on what you have, Dual Magnum and Ultra Blazer is a good combination. If you have grasses too, you will need to apply a clethodim-containing product. This is a herbicide that only controls grasses. Also, if you have nutsedge you will need to consider Basagran if yellow nutsedge and Cadre if yellow and purple nutsedge. But there is a rotation restriction for Cadre with cotton.

So, general recommendations once you move past paraquat plus Basagran plus Dual are the following:
1) Ultra Blazer plus Basagran if you have yellow nutsedge in addition to Palmer amaranth and other broadleaf weeds.
2) Cadre plus Ultra Blazer if you have purple nutsedge in addition to Palmer amaranth and other broadleaf weeds.
3) Ultra Blazer if you do not have any nutsedge.
1) and 2) and 3) can be applied with 80/20 nonionic surfactant at 1 quart per 100 gallons. You can add Dual Magnum at 16 oz/acre.

If you have grasses and can do it, apply Clethodim at 16 oz/acre plus crop oil concentrate at 1 gallon per 100 gallons first, and then apply 1) and 3) at least 3 days later. If you decide to go with 2), Cadre will do good on most grasses. Ultra Blazer and Basagran decrease grass control with clethodim, but the higher rate (16 oz/acre) overcomes most of the antagonism.

If you need to make a single application, use the rates above for 1) and 3) but add the clethodim and you will need to switch to crop oil concentrate. This will cause slightly more speckling from Ultra Blazer but that should not be a major issue.
