Collapse ▲Pursuit is an ALS inhibitor that can be used in peanuts. It is not used very much in North Carolina because of ALS resistance in Palmer amaranth but continues to be used in some areas including Virginia. While Palmer amaranth is present in Virginia, it is more isolated and this allows Pursuit to be effective on red root and slender pigweed where they are present. Before widespread presence of ALS resistant Palmer amaranth in NC, I would often recommend Pursuit to control escaped pigweeds (not Palmer amaranth) that were too large for PPO herbicides to kill these weeds. While it took some time, eventually the pigweeds would die when Pursuit was used. This option is NOT a good one in fields with Palmer amaranth (which we assume is ALS resistant) because in addition to the Pursuit you would need to apply a PPO herbicide at some point. Pursuit is less effective on some weeds than Cadre is but it does not have the rotation restriction to cotton that Cadre does. But for some folks, Pursuit is still a good option. In fact, one company is looking at a premix of Pursuit with newer chemistry.
