Consider Saving 2,4-DB for Later in the Season Peanut Notes No. 90 2019

— Written By

Consider saving 2,4-DB for later applications, generally in mixtures with fungicides. While we often apply this herbicide with most other herbicides, the season is long and we often have Palmer amaranth escapes in many fields and occasionally sicklepod. Sequential applications of 2,4-DB at 16 oz followed by 16 oz can do a very good job suppressing large Palmer amaranth and sicklepod if escapes occur. However, if you have had an intense PPO herbicide program, those escapes could be PPO tolerant/resistant (Palmer amaranth) beginning to emerge in fields. 2,4-DB will limit seed production but will not completely eliminate seed production.
