Thrips Control Critical Peanut Notes No. 63 2020

— Written By

We need to give the peanut crop as much of a kick start as possible against thrips.

Based on early-season observations and forecasts in other crops and in peanuts, last year’s increase in asymptomatic plants infected with Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV), AND the cool growing conditions, I want to follow up on an earlier posting. The threat from thrips populations and subsequent occurrence of TSWV is high so I am encouraging the post-emergent foliar spray of acephate on all fields regardless of the at plant in-furrow option that was used. We need to make sure the plants get a chance to “take off” once warm weather returns and not be stunted by the thrips feeding.
