Edema or Oedema Peanut Notes No. 147 2020

The following is an image of what is likely caused by Edema (Oedema) and can occur when excessive soil water is absorbed by a plant part, in this case the developing peg and pod. Even though fields may be relatively dry now, this could have been set in motion several weeks back when some areas of the state were wet. This is not a yield-limiting issue. We have some areas of the state that have experience “wetting and drying” and this can cause some abnormal growth of pods.
