Spraying for Leaf Spot and Stem Rot Now Peanut Notes No. 228 2020
This morning I had two folks ask questions about spraying for leaf spot at this time of the year. One person was also worried about stem rot. Our cooler temperatures have decreased the activity of the pathogens that cause these diseases. Soil moisture and humidity are adequate in most fields for these pathogens to be active but temperatures are below the threshold for pathogen activity. There are peanuts that need to stay in the field for another 3 weeks or so. But stem rot and leaf spot are not likely to be active and any epidemics would be very slow in developing and maintaining momentum.
