A record 165 scientific papers will be presented at this year’s 53rd APRES Virtual Annual Meeting. Program Chair David Jordan and Technical Program Chair Jeff Dunne were challenged to create a schedule to give attendees the best opportunity to hear each and every presentation. The positive outcome of virtual format is it can be easily expanded to accommodate this blessing and APRES 53 will run the entire week–July 12–16, 2021.
The APRES Graduate Student Organization asked to expand the Joe Sugg Graduate Student Oral Presentation Competition to two competitions–A Masters Division and a Ph.D. Division. The Board unanimously endorsed the idea. The North Carolina Peanut Growers Association, sole sponsor since inception, joined forces with the National Peanut Board to make this happen. And, students overwhelmingly responded.
Zoom Live Webinars will be the format for the expanded schedule of presentations this year, allowing attendees to directly ask authors questions in real time. (Posters will be pre-recorded.) A live event comes with the possibility of technical difficulties. To ensure the flow of presentations, the Program Committee is asking all authors to send a backup copy of their PowerPoint presentation by June 30, 2021. Your backup presentation does not have to be your final presentation (Posters need to be final copy). The backup copy will be used by our technical assistants to share their screen if an author experiences technical difficulty. Detailed instructions on uploading your presentations(s) will be sent directly to all authors shortly.
APRES 53 is shaping up to be another outstanding event. A great group of General Session and Symposium speakers; a full week of scientific papers; and a great opportunity to interact with your colleagues. Keep reading to get all the details.
See you soon,
Gary Schwarzlose
2020-21 APRES President
