The attached water sample report comes from a farmer’s water source who has questioned these effects on his pesticide performance. I remember that you sent an email on this years ago. Do you see anything to be concerned about?


I don’t have a good feel for the actual levels and herbicide performance but some of the cations look elevated and so is the calcium carbonate level. Ammonium sulfate is often added to the tank before anything else to keep calcium and other cations from forming a complex with herbicides like glyphosate or sethoxydim and perhaps clethodim. I don’t work with herbicides in other crops as much but I don’t think our broadleaf/sedge herbicides in peanuts would be affected (other than perhaps clethodim) by water quality. I don’t know about other pesticides such as fungicides or insecticides. Has this person had failures in weed, insect and pathogen control?


He has had good results based on what he sees. This is just information gathering.
