Drought and Digging Early Peanut Notes No. 212 2021

Question:

Got a grower uptight about drought stress and says peanuts are dying.  Started digging.  All of my crew including me are scattered.  What are the odds that digging now are warranted?

Jordan:

Almost none.  The percentage we think in terms of visual damage for a stress is always much higher than it actually is.  We are drawn to the problem.  What is the maturity?  I’m sure way behind with that much stress.  But I do not think he will do well by digging now.  Even the most advanced samples are 2 weeks out.
