The following maturity samples were provided by Mitch Smith.

Yesterday, I asked 4 peanut producers in Pitt County to collect samples from their earliest fields in order to determine the optimum times to conduct peanut maturity workshops. Based on the attached images of Bailey, Bailey II, and Sullivan, these fields, representing 4 different geographic areas from the county, suggest a crop that is 2-3 weeks away from optimum digging.

Since the traditional digging week in Pitt County has been the last week in September, I would estimate that if this crop is early, it is early only by about one week.
