AgLogic Versus Imidacloprid Plus Velum Peanut Notes No. 53 2023

I had a question about using AgLogic versus Admire Pro (or generic imidacloprid) plus Velum for thrips control and nematode suppression. Both of these options are expensive. If you apply Admire Pro (or generic) you will need to follow up with acephate in many fields. Imidacloprid is in general about half as effective as it was a decade ago. In many fields, AgLogic will not need a follow up with acephate for thrips. But it will need a follow up in some fields. In terms of nematode suppression with Velum applied in the seed furrow, we have seen very little benefit in terms of suppression of nematodes in North Carolina. And when we have observed lower levels of nematode injury and/or nematode populations in soil at the end of the season with Velum, there has been no difference in yield compared with the no-Velum control.  AgLogic provides some suppression of nematodes. We have not compared AgLogic and Velum in peanuts for nematode suppression.
