Make sure you add Basagran at 8 oz/acre to Gramoxone (paraquat) when applied to peanuts. The Basagran will decrease injury from Gramoxone. This will be especially noticeable when residual herbicides are included. Apply Gramoxone within 4 weeks after peanuts emerge. Better results are often noted when Gramoxone is applied within 2-3 weeks after peanuts emerge (less injury and better weed control because weeds are often smaller the earlier herbicides are applied.) Do not apply Gramoxone to peanuts with significant injury from thrips. Spray acephate first and then follow up with Gramoxone plus Basagran 10 days later. Acephate can be applied with Gramoxone plus Basagran plus residual herbicides. However, the acephate will not help the plant recover from thrips damage quickly enough to avoid excessive injury from paraquat.
