Collapse ▲While many people were able to plant peanuts in May, there are some folks that still have acres to get in. Planting in June creates risk to yield, but that risk is often dictated by weather in September (temperature) and drought throughout the cropping cycle. Every year is different. On page 37 (Table 3-17) in 2024 Peanut Information, we show planting dates from early May through June at Lewiston-Woodville for the past four years. Yields were lower in most years when planting in June. Early June did better than mid-June or late June, but in most cases yields were off with the June plantings compared with May plantings. This could shift with a warm September and October. Three out of the past four years have experienced a cool weekend around September 20 that slowed maturity down significantly. This is unpredictable but has been the norm more recently.
