Fields have a good chance of drying next week and farmers will catch up on a lot of activities. As we move into June, farmers will begin applying gypsum. My recommendation is not to rush to apply gypsum . I am concerned that applying gypsum in early June can leave it susceptible to washing off beds or leaching out of the pegging zone if we get heavy rains. There is a lot of season remaining. We don’t need calcium in the pegging zone until early to mid-July.
But I do understand why farmers do this early and the logistics of getting product.
