Paraquat Question Peanut Notes No. 89 2025

Question:

Good morning! I want to be sure about a couple things.

1) is Gramoxone fine at a high rate before cracking, or is there a reason to wait till peanuts crack?

2) it was 67° here yesterday and the high today is only 70°. Is that considered “unseasonably cold” for a Basagran tank mix with Gramoxone?

Jordan:

Legally, after planting, you can only apply 8 or 11 oz of paraquat. You can apply burndown rates immediately before planting. It is cool. The cloudy weather will also increase injury potential. But the weeds will keep right on growing. It is scheduled to be cool for the next day or so. If the farmer can wait, letting temperatures increase some might lessen the burn from Gramoxone. But peanuts can generally handle paraquat under a wide range of environmental conditions.
