Potassium and Excess Rain Peanut Notes No. 137 2025

Question:

Some some areas have had tremendous rainfall to date this season. I am curious how to approach making the decision to add more potash to peanuts. We are seeing potash deficiency in most tobacco fields in the area which indicates leaching. In 2024, I noticed that the peanut crop removed a lot of K from the soil based on soil samples so I do not want K to be a limiting factor to a good crop this season.

We could do tissue sampling or look at K indexes and make a call.

Jordan:

It is a delicate balance in terms of putting K in the fruiting zone at the same time we are applying gypsum. I would wait as long as I could to put on the K if it is a granular product. The tissue analysis would help. I have not looked at foliar K products.
