Question:
We have some peanut fields with history of Sclerotinia blight but have not seen any yet, They do have a lot of white mold. What do you think about using Miravis + Fluazinam to be proactive for this next spray? Otherwise, was thinking Miravis + Excalia 3 oz. Last spray was Miravis plus Elatus. Price is less than $4 ac difference in generic Omega at 1 pt vs Excalia at 3 oz.
Jordan:
You probably got a lot out of the Miravis plus Elatus spray for leaf spot, stem rot and Sclerotinia blight. Miravis plus Excalia is good but unlike Elatus, both it and generic Omega bring little to the table for leaf spot. Miravis has no curative activity for leaf spot, and I do worry about trying to get 6 weeks (2 sprays) out of it. The folks at VT have seen some Sclerotinia blight suppression with Provost Silver. It has some curative activity if some leaf spot has slipped through. But, if you feel like the sprays for leaf spot have been right on time, Miravis plus generic Omega or Excalia can work. I’d just be tight on a spray after this.
Follow Up:
Okay, good deal, this grower in particular has been timely. Some others not.
Jordan:
For the ones delayed, if Miravis has been the key fungicide for leaf spot, a fungicide with good curative activity needs to be used to be safe.
