Spider Mite Question Peanut Notes No. 223 2023

Question:

Have some scattered spider mite hits. Should I spray bifenthrin?

Jordan:

With cooler temperatures expected and only scattered mites, I would not recommend applying anything for mites. Assume there is no webbing? Bifenthrin can flare mites even though it can suppress them. It can be unpredictable. Portal at the lowest rate can give suppression if you feel like the problem is getting worse and mites are building. Hopefully mite populations will remain stable or decrease over the next three weeks as you wait for peanuts to mature.
