I received a few questions about alligatorweed in peanuts. This is a hard weed to kill. It finds its home in water but also in the middle of sandy peanut and cotton fields. In peanuts, our PPI and PRE herbicides are not particularly effective. We do not have a single herbicide applied postemergence that completely kills it either. My recommendation is applying paraquat with Basagran early and then applying Cadre plus Cobra or Cadre plus Ultra Blazer to get additional suppression. If Cadre is not a possibility due to rotations with cotton or other crops, Cobra or Ultra Blazer with Basagran plus 2,4-DB is the next option. In addition, control by these herbicides may not be complete. Try to control it as well as possible in rotation crops where you can apply a considerable amount of glyphosate, glufosinate (although I am not sure if glufosinate brings much to the table for this weed) and the auxin products. Control in cotton or corn (and possibly soybeans in the rotation) is an important element of managing this weed in peanuts.
