This summer is turning into the year of the fall armyworms. They are appearing about everywhere in pastures, home lawns, soybeans, AND in peanuts.  The good news is that they are not typically a voracious feeder on peanuts and usually leave what I call an “onion peel” look to the damage.  Looks sort of like a translucent window in the leaves.  Fall armyworms, especially big ones, are a little harder to kill and pyrethroids may not do well against big ones. Keep in mind that they are not as damaging as corn earworm or budworm and I think it takes about twice as many to cause yield reduction.  In the interest of something new and different, I’ve placed a link below for a nice information sheet on fall armyworms from Auburn.
