Question:

I have a client that is working with a grower who had an employee accidentally apply Cadre on peanuts at cracking (supposed to apply Pursuit).  Although much time has passed, the rep is going for a follow up visit.  Is there anything that he should specifically be looking for with a Cadre application going out that early?  Can you remind me about how many nodules per plant should be present for good development?

Jordan Answer:

At 45 days after planting peanut should have 15 nodules on the tap root.  10 or less is marginal and someone should consider nitrogen.  But Cadre should not affect nodulation even when applied that early.  It is possible that Cadre applied at cracking will cause peanuts to stay relatively small, perhaps for the entire season.  It doesn't mean they will not yield well just that Cadre always stunts peanuts some, even when applied at a normal time.  But we often do not notice it unless we have a non-treated area.  So, at this point in time the plants should be green and growing okay but just smaller than expected, and with an at-cracking spray, quite a bit smaller than expected.  Sometimes when Cadre is sprayed we experience the "yellow flash" within a week of application.  The upper portion can be slightly yellow for a short period of time but it is transient.  If you want to send me some images after your visit I can take a look.
