Forecast has us sitting to receive some rain later this week. This can be helpful particularly for fields that are dry and too hard to dig but are ready maturity-wise. If a field is "ready-Freddy" such as if we would possibly be looking at facing over maturity in another week, I would dig the field before the rain comes. There is risk in peanuts sitting on top of the ground if we continue to get misty drizzly conditions for more than a few days in a row, which could cause secondary mold growth leading to Seg issues, but if my peanuts were prominently ready I would take that risk compared to if my field would require 10 to 14 days to dry out before getting back into it. We may not receive a pile of rain, and current estimates are modest. Many fields are not in an urgent rush to dig, in which case the rain should be helpful.
Attached are a few pictures, including some minor yellowing in the canopy that we can sometimes see late in the season as the crop is "pulling a load uphill." In most cases this is not a cause for alarm. We have seen fields with nutrient issues this year, and so each is good to consider individually.
