Noduels on root system of peanuts

Question:

Is it necessary to double the liquid inoculant on " virgin" peanut land? I use liquid in the furrow and a peat-based inoculant in the box. My sales rep is recommending I double the strength of the liquid in the furrow.

Jordan:

That would be extra insurance. The peat material is your other insurance. Rather than increase the rate of a single product I would consider adding a second product to the tank. I’d do that before I doubled the rate. But I think a labeled rate in the furrow and peat material with seed would be okay.

Of course, the easiest thing to do is up the rate of the in-furrow used. My issue with doubling the rate for new ground is that the product 1x rate should be adequate if their 1x rate is incorrect. Make sure you have in-furrow AND peat.

Follow Up:

I may use their product and a different brand inoculant along with the peat-based product.

Jordan:

I think that would work, but I have never co-applied different inoculants. I suspect it would be okay but just don’t know for sure. Increasing rate might be safest known approach.
