J-rooting has been observed across the region. It is not uncommon to see this in most fields to some degree. Excessive J-rooting is most often associated with weather conditions and seed quality. Metolachlor is often blamed for causing J-rooting. However, Eric Prostko (weed scientist at UGA) has conducted research demonstrating that metolachlor is not the cause.
